The Chinese art of Inner Painting is thought to have begun around 1820.
The artist uses special brushes and paints the interior of the bottle through the neck and oaints in the opposite order of a traditional painting.
This contemporary Inner Painted Snuff Bottle is of a lovely pastoral scene containing trees, hills, mountains, two houses, a man walking across a field and Chinese hanzi (lettering) in the front. Amazingly, the back of the bottle features the same scene from the opposite vantage point.
A scene, depending on its complexity, might take the artist a week to several weeks to complete.
This bottle comes with a custom made wooden box with satin lining, a brass latch and Chinese hanzi on top (unfortunately, I do not know the translation. Probably "Made in China" ).
The bottle is in EXCELLENT condition.
The box has a small dent on the bottom as seen in the last picture.
Approx. measurements:
Bottle: 3" x 5" (with stopper)
Box: 4.5" x 6.5"
