American cast iron mechanical bank “Paddy and the Pig” by J&E Stevens.
Seated upon the iron base is an Irishman with sculpted hat emblazoned with a shamrock, with movable eyes and hinged jaw, dark brown jacket, yellow trousers, and holding a white piglet in his lap. When a coin is placed on the piglet''s nose and the lever pushed, the piglet kicks up his foot, popping the coin backwards into the hinging-open mouth of Irishman whose eyes also roll back and forth. Size in inches: H 9” x W 7.5” x D 4” Origin: American Period: Early 20th century Material: Cast metal Condition: Completely solid in structure and form, the surface is well aged and covered in loss of its paint and aged rust in sections as shown. The mechanism is present but a tad stiff in execution. The photos aim to illustrate the condition of this rare survivor.
