Noritake Pedestal Bowl Bird of Paradise Here''s a very striking art deco bowl from Noritake. This shallow bowl has two gold decorated side handles, and a low, flared foot edged in gold with a black or dark brown accent line. The top rim has an intricate border of alternating leaves and berries on a deep brown background. The inside of the bowl is ivory or cream, with a long-tailed bird of paradise perched on a branch loaded with colorful flowers. Handle to handle this bowl is about 9-3/4" across. The bowl itself is about 8" across, and 2-5/8" high at the rim. It weighs about 1-1/4 pounds, before boxing for shipment. IThe underside of this bowl is marked with the red M in the wreath, with Noritake above, and Hand Painted Made in Japan below. Below the mark, the characters say ''Isho Toroku Shutugan Chu'' which means ''design registry in process". This mark was probably used from about 1921-1924. This antique bowl has no chips, no cracks, no crazing. There is a little wear to the gold glaze
